Bolgatanga, April 22, GNA - The Venerable Cannon Dennis Tong, Parish Priest at the Saint Cyprian Anglican Church in Bolgatanga has asked Christians to respect the tenets and teachings of Jesus Christ by following His footprints.
“Do not let your trust in Jesus be a lip service. If we want to have eternal life and peace in and around us, then, we have to trust and obey Jesus’ instruction because he has affirmed that he is in control”.
Venerable Tong preaching the sermon on Easter Sunday, emphasized that “Jesus knows the heart of every man and has destined every being's fate, therefore, there is no point in attempting to be deceitful through pretence and empty promises of loyalty to Christ”.
He said “Easter, signifies new life and today, the tension of Holy week is over. The period was full of frustration and disappointment, but it goes to assure us of Christ’s fulfilling love, unconditional sacrifice and purposeful forgiveness to reconcile with a sinful world”
He noted that the memory of Christ’s death is not about the disciples of Jesus. “It is about confronting the realities of life and shaping your problems in communion with Christ; Saviour of the world. It is about confronting the things that are past, but bravely, approaching Christ in newness of life and targeting salvation for the rest of our lives”.
Venerable Tong said preaching on the theme: “Do not be Afraid”, should be the courageous moments of Christians to have hope and reassurances that “Christ’s death creates opportunities for us to be beneficiaries of his alternative blessings. We must strive for alternatives, and accept the alternatives because they are God’s way of preventing uncontrolled predicaments in our lives”.
He said as Christians, “Our destinies cannot be shaped by the ordinary things of life, but we have to commune our unending desire for salvation through accepting Christ and remaining loyal to serve him and his church”.
According to the Parish Priest, “Whatever we experience from serving God, no matter what negative things happen to us, we could be enjoying the alternate sides of his blessings. We must not exercise fear as long as we trust in him and work in accordance with his word and instruction as held in 2Corinthians 5:17”.
Venerable Tong said “If we believe that the father is a strong person, he will forever defend us and grant us the necessary security. All we need to do is to believe in him, trust and obey”.
The congregation gave thanks to God for His unending love and protection for them and members of their families throughout the lent season.
