Kpone (GAR) April 16, GNA - The defunct Central Market of Kpone, the capital town of Kpone-Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, has re-opened.
Tuesdays have been earmarked as market days for the people of Kpone and its surrounding communities.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Regina Amanquah, Secretary, Kpone Market Women group, noted that the Kpone Central market would mitigate the inconveniences that the residents went through to get food stuffs for domestic and commercial purposes.
Mrs. Amanquah further stated that residents would no longer commute from Kpone to Tema and Ashaiman to buy food stuffs, adding that traders would ensure the availability of the various goods and services to meet the demands of the people.
She further called on the indigenes to take advantage of the market and own it ssying,”‘Let us welcome the strangers into the market. “
Mrs. Theresa Gidi, Head, KKMAl Revenue Office, also explained that, the market would help improve revenue collection in the area.
She assured that the KKMA officials would keep the market safe and clean at all times to promote good and healthy trading.
Mrs. Gidi assured that traders would be given a shed each in the market to trade in.
Mrs. Christiana Abldey, Market Queenmother, thanked the Municipal Assembly for reviving the market and promised that she would ensure that the market was well maintained.
Hundreds of residents within and outside Kpone thronged the central market square to transact business for the first time in a long while with joy as well as music at the background.
