Techiman (B/E), April 16, GNA - Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area in the Bono East Region has joined the advocacy for the extension of Ghana’s presidential term of office.
According to the Paramount Chief, the extension beyond four years to six or seven- year term would enable any government to effectively implement policies and programmes and successfully complete developmental projects initiated.
He stated the current constitutional provision that limited the President’s term to four years, subject to re-election for another tenure made it difficult for any President to be able to achieve his vision for the country.
Oseadeeyo Ameyaw IV made the call in his welcome address when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him on Monday at Techiman, the Bono East capital as part of his four-day working visit to the Ahafo and Bono East Regions.
The ‘Techimanhene’ therefore appealed to President Akufo-Addo to initiate moves for Parliament to amend the constitution in that regard and admonished residents of Bono East and Ghanaians in general to be law-abiding to promote peace and development.
Oseadeeyo Ameyaw IV stressed the need for Ghanaians to observe best environmental practices and personal hygiene to ensure a healthy population.
He noted that would contribute to the reduction of government’s expenditure on health and the funds saved could be channelled to finance projects of other critical sectors like education, water and energy.
