Tarkwa (W/R), April 9, GNA - The National Youth Authority (NYA) in collaboration with Aseda Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation and the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly have organised a skills, education and livelihood empowerment programme for 120 youth.
The beneficiaries, who comprised; 96 females and 24 males went through a one-year six months training period.
Some of the programmes were; welding, spraying, cosmetology, hair dressing, dressmaking and tailoring, auto mechanic and electrician, masonry, carpentry, beads making, plumbing, painting, aluminium fabrication, shoe making, photography and graphics.
The beneficiaries at the end of their training organised a two-day exhibition programme in Tarkwa to display their talents.
In a welcoming address, the Municipal Director of NYA, Mr Benjamin Teye Aborbi said 100 youth, made up of 75 females and 25 males would be enrolled onto the programme by the end of April, 2019.
He beseeched the youth to use the available opportunities to upgrade themselves and make meaningful impact on the lives of people in their communities.
Mr Aborbi said NYA would continue to collaborate with institutions and work to find permanent solutions to issues affecting youth groups in the municipality.
He, however, assured the youth that Aseda Foundation would provide start-up packs for graduands who excelled in their various programmes after their training period.
The President of Aseda Foundation, Mrs. Diana Adjei, indicated that at the end of the programme the beneficiaries would write the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) examination and therefore advised them to use their time profitably by making optimum use of the opportunity.
Mrs. Adjei entreated the youth not to politicise the programme, but rather concentrate on what they would be taught to enable them earn better income to cater for themselves and their families.
Ms Esther Arthur and Ms Comfort Owireduaa, beneficiaries of the programme shared their experiences with their colleagues and appealed to them to respect their mentors by taking their lessons seriously.
