Tarkwa (W/R), April 2, GNA - A circuit court in Tarkwa has sentenced a forty-one year old small scale miner to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a seven year-old school girl.
Akwasi Asante alias Okrah pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, told the court that, the complainant, Francis Benyin is a laboratory technician and father of the victim.
She said the convict resides at Kumsono a village near Bogoso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
She said on May 6, 2018, the victim and her mother travelled to Kumsono to spend some days there as the victim was on vacation.
Chief Inspector Anaman said on May 12, 2018, around 1400 hours, Akwasi Asante approached a lady, and asked her to call the victim for him.
She said when the victim went to him, he lured her into his semi-detached mud house, held her mouth tightly and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on the floor after which he sacked her to go home.
The prosecution said the victim later fell sick and when she was sent to the hospital for treatment where she narrated her ordeal to her father.
She said a complaint was lodged with the police and the complainant was issued a medical report form on behalf of the victim to seek medical attention for her.
According to the prosecution, the medical report form was endorsed by a medical officer at the Tarkwa Municipal hospital and returned to the Police.
Chief Inspector Anaman said on May 19, 2018, victim identified the convict to the police as the one who defiled her.
She said Akwasi Asante was subsequently arrested and after investigations he was charged with the offence.
