Sunyani, March 25, GNA - Madam Fati Bamba, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA) has called on educational institutions to support and help strengthened the National Youth Parliament (NYP).
This is to help instil democratic values and principles into the contemporary generation.
The NYP, is an initiative enshrined in the 2010 National Youth Policy Document (YPD), which acknowledges the participation of the youth in governance and democracy.
To be incorporated into second cycle and tertiary institutions in the country, the NYP creates a platform for good rapport and social networking between the youth and political systems at the district, regional and national levels.
Speaking at the official launch of the NYP in the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions, held in Sunyani, Madam Bamba noted that many of the youth were not abreast with the content of the 1992 constitution, which has resulted in them being lawlessness and unpatriotic.
She said the youth as the future leaders of the country, could grow and become national assets and contribute meaningfully to nation building if they were imbibed with a sense of nationalism and love for the nation in their upbringing and development.
Madam Bamba said educational instructions had critical role to play for the youth to grow to become useful adults, hence, the need for them to embrace and support the NYP for it to impact positively in the lives of the youth.
A key objective of the NYP is to prepare the youth adequately to enable them participate fully in local governance as a means to promote grassroots’ democracy, and social accountability.
She emphasized that the NYP remained a non-partisan body, which served as a voice for the people and admonished the students to guard against partisan politics, which could affect the objectives of the NYP.
Mr. Mumuni Sulemana, the National Operations and Programmes Director of NYA, described the contemporary youth as dynamic, energetic and technologically inclined, hence, the need for the NYP to encourage them to channel their intellectual abilities and exuberances into useful activities.
He advised the youth to learn good morals and guard against unhealthy lifestyle and practices that could ruin their future and make them societal liabilities.
