Kumasi, March 24, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has advised landlords especially those along major streets in the Metropolis to paint their houses.
In addition, they should also plant trees within their premises in line with the Assembly's flagship programme, 'Keep Kumasi Clean and Green (KKCG)'.
Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said those measures were part of preparations towards the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
"We are expecting thousands of foreigners to visit the city from now till December to participate in the celebration. The Assembly is, therefore, calling on landlords to improve their surroundings," he noted.
Mr Assibey-Antwi was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kumasi, after an inspection of trees planted over the last two years under the KKCG programme.
The exercise was in tandem with the celebration of this year's International Day of Forests on the theme "Forests and Education".
A variety of tree species, including; 'mahogany', 'ofram', 'royal palm', 'emire' and 'kusia' were planted by the Assembly over the years in order to boost the vegetation cover of the city.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi indicated that the changing climatic conditions had compelled the Assembly to become environmentally-conscious in their endeavours.
He said citizens ought to come on board to realise the noble objectives of the KMA since the availability of trees helped to mitigate the negative effects of carbon in the atmosphere.
