Sukaya N/R, Mar 24, GNA - Markaz Al Bishara (MAB) a Ghanaian–based Christian NGO has handed over some facilities and items worth GH¢95,000.00 to the people of Sukaya, a community in the Gushegu Municipality to facilitate quality teaching and learning.
The facilities and items included; an early childhood development centre, a refurbished three-unit classroom block, furniture and assorted textbooks.
They were funded by the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) and formed part of the Markaz Al Bishara’s Child Development Programme (MABCDP), which is aimed at supporting communities with serene educational environment to promote quality education.
Mr Fuseini Karimu, the Deputy Coordinating Director of the Gushegu Municipal Assembly who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive thanked Markaz Albishara for its support to help promote quality education in the municipality.
He called on GES to post teachers to help provide quality services to the school to complement the efforts of CCFC.
He also commended MAB for sponsoring the Education of Master Jato Asumah, a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Master Banyinwen Elijah, a student of Tamale Technical University, both natives of the community.
Mr Kamiru called on the people to organise community-wide durbar in honour of the good works of Markaz Albishara towards the development of Education in the area and the municipality at large.
He appealed to the people to maintain the facilities to prolong their lifespan.
Mr Bright K. A. Lawoe, the Municipal Director of Education for Gushegu, said they had about 30,008 pupils and students at the various levels of education in the municipality.
He said there were about 25,527 public basic school pupils with 536 teachers, 2,092 private basic school pupils, 2,389 students at the second cycle level with 93 teaching and non-teaching staff and also management strength of 42, comprising of 20 teaching and 22 non-teaching personnel.
Mr Lawoe called for the renovation of the Gumonayili Primary and Samang-Yapala Primary school so as to precipitate increase in enrolment of the pupils.
He called on head teachers, staff of Sukaya Primary, chiefs and elders, SMC and, PTA to take good care of the structures and teachers accommodation currently under construction and renovate the existing structure for teachers to use.
Mr Lawoe said it was only when the teachers accommodation was made ready for use that the directorate would be able to post teachers there.
Madam Gyan-Bassaw Patricia, the Partner Programmes Manager of MAB called on parents to show interest in their children's education and urged them give equal treatment and opportunity to their children regardless of their sex.
Mr Mahama Yakubu speaking on behalf of the community pledged and assured that the teachers’ accommodation would be ready for use in a month’s time to facilitate the posting of teachers into the school.
The ceremony was characterised by traditional drumming and dancing.
