Accra, March 20, GNA - Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information has called for Turkey to open up its market to Ghanaian handicrafts and other products.
Turkey could become a hub - serving adjoining countries with the nation’s beautiful and high-value products.
He made the call when Mrs Ozlem Ergun Ulueren, the Turkish Ambassador, paid a courtesy call on him.
He said exploring opportunities for a two-way flow of trade between the two nations was one of the government’s top priorities.
Currently the trade balance favoured Turkey as “the import is mostly coming from Turkey to Ghana, but we need to get to a stage where products from here get there so that it will be a win-win”.
The Minister acknowledged the success of Turkey’s industrial sector and encouraged Turkish industries to consider investing in the country, citing the agriculture sector, to add value to agricultural produce.
The Ghanaian economy, he added, was in good health - opened up to the capital market with many products including the EURO Bond that could be patronized by investors.
Mrs Ulueren said considering the long-standing relations between her country and Ghana, they were determined to become a reliable development partner.
Turkish construction companies had invested about half-a-million United States (US) dollars in Ghana and she announced that this would be doubled to US$1 billion.
It is an indication that there is growing investor confidence in the economy.
She said ‘Karpowership was producing considerable amount of power for the country, a proof of Turkey’s readiness to support the “Ghana beyond aid” vision.
“We see many opportunities in agriculture and tourism.”
