Tema, March 19, GNA - A group of Ghanaians living in Belgium on Tuesday donated hospital equipment to the Tema Manhean health centre.
The Items included five electronic hospital beds with mattresses, six reception chairs and basic health items.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Stephen Asare Opoku, member of the group, said it was devastating to hear in the news that precious lives were being lost due to lack of beds in some of the country's hospitals.
Mr Asare Opoku noted that the Ghanaian community in Belgium were concerned with the health of their relatives in Ghana hence the drive to assist the various deprived health facilities in the country.
Mr Emmanuel Yaw Adu- Amankwah, a lead representative of the group, revealed that, the donation would be replicated across the country.
He added that, Chereponi, Seshwi- Wioso, Agona Swedru,Nsawam Medium. Security Prisons, Dormaa District Hospital and Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital were to receive their equipment as soon as their consignments arrive at the sea ports.
Mrs Nana Konadu Darko, Medical officer in charge, Manhean Health Centre, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture.
She noted that the equipment was delivered at a time the hospital needed beds to save lives.
Mrs.Darko assured that the equipment would be put to good use adding that health officials would be given the needed training on how to use the beds and maintain them properly.
This is the first donation by the Ghanaian Community in Belgium. The estimated value of the five beds is 25,000 Euros.
