Axim (W/R), March 19, GNA - Mrs Francisca Oti Mensah, the Board chairman of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has expressed concern about the delay in the construction of the Axim Youth Resource Centre which is about 60 percent complete.
She said the Volta, Eastern, Ashanti, Central and Brong Ahafo regional Youth Centres which all started at the same time were almost eighty percent complete.
Mrs Mensah said this when the Board and staff of the National Youth Authority (NYA) paid a working visit to the Western Region to ascertain the progress of work at the Axim Youth Resource Centre located at Axim in the Nzema East Municipality.
The team also paid courtesy calls on the Municipal Chief Executive of the Nzema East District Assembly and the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mrs Gifty Eugenia Kusi.
Mrs Mensah, who is also the MP for Kabre East, noted with concern that the progress of work at the Axim centre was quite slow compared to other areas and attributed the situation to land litigation issues on portions of the land allocated for the NYA project.
She appealed to the traditional authorities and the entire community to give the contractor the needed support to enable him complete the project on time.
Mr Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigri, Chief Executive Officer of NYA, said the inspection of the project is to ensure that the contractor completed the work on time.
He said" I urge everyone to monitor the work so as to put the contractor on his toes to be able to finish the project on time since the Axim project is far behind schedule. "
Mr Asigri said land litigation is a major factor leading to the delay in the completion of the Centre and urged stakeholders to reach an agreement on their concerns to ensure the completion of the project by May this year.
He urged the youth of Axim to patronize the centre when it is completed so as to improve upon their living standards.
