Adzinukope (V/R), Mar. 15, GNA - Pencils of Promise (PoP), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a focus on education has completed and inaugurated its 500th school project worldwide at the Adzinukope in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
PoP has been supporting countries such as Laos, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Ghana for the past 10 years with educational infrastructure and materials especially in rural areas to bring relief and joy to children of school going age.
Mr. Freeman Gobah, Country Director, PoP, speaking at the inauguration of the five-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Adzinukope M.A. Basic School, expressed gratitude to people who supported the goal of increasing access to quality education by building clean and safe schools for rural and developing communities for the past 10 years.
He also acknowledged efforts of the Municipal/ District Assemblies, Members of Parliament, Ghana Education Service and communities within which they had worked for the past decade.
Mr. Gobah said though PoP had been in Ghana for barely six years, it had initiated and completed 150 school projects in 24 Districts in Volta, Oti and Eastern Regions.
He commended the chiefs and people of Adzinukope for their contribution, which led to the completion of the three unit primary and two unit kindergarten blocks in “record time” of four months.
Mr. Gobah assured the authorities of the school that they would soon be part of the teacher support programme by PoP.
Mr. Maxwell Quophy Blagodzie, Outgoing Deputy Volta Regional Minister commended PoP for successfully providing educational infrastructure for deprived schools making education "meaningful" in Ghana for the past six years.
He said government would continue to make “giant” strides in providing physical space for NGOs to support with educational infrastructure as demonstrated by PoP.
Mr. Anthony Avorgbedor, Municipal Chief Executive, Ketu North said the Assembly appreciated the efforts of PoP and said the projects would ease the pressure on government.
He assured that the project would be put to good use and was hopeful that the School Feeding Programme would also help enrol more pupils into the school.
Mr. Edward Deku, Headmaster, Adzinukope M.A. Basic School said but for the intervention of PoP classes one to three would still be sharing classes with the upper class.
He expressed gratitude to PoP and appealed for computers to enhance quality teaching and learning of ICT in the school.
