Bongo (UE), March 13, GNA - The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a sensitization programme for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) on the fight against corruption and the Whistle Blower Act.
The programme, which was organized at the Salibga community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, was sponsored by the European Union.
It was aimed at mobilizing support from the PWDs to help fight corruption by empowering them to report any impropriety, malpractices, and corruption acts in their localities.
The community sensitization forum which attracted 63 males, 83 females and 16 children all PWDs was held under the theme” Citizens for Transparency and Accountability”.
Madam Alice Ndego, the District Director of NCCE in charge of the Bongo District, sensitized the participants on “Corruption and the Whistle Blower Act .2006, Act 720”, and urged them not to hesitate to report any impropriety or acts of corruption in their localities to the appropriate quarters for redress.
She mentioned the Police, the Commission on Human Rights and Administration of Justice (CHRAJ), the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), traditional authorities, the Assembly Member, the District Chief Executive among others as some of the areas they could report acts.
Madam Ndego told the participants that government through the Police Service have instituted reward packages as well as protection for individuals who report corruption issues to the appropriate quarters and entreated them to take advantage of such opportunity and report wrong doings.
She said the programme, which had the objective of promoting good governance in country, is not only being implemented in the Salibga community but also in 40 other communities across the District.
The participants were taken through topics such as, “Governance, Good Governance, Accountability, Corruption, the Whistle Blower Act, Disclosure of Impropriety, Economic Crime, Rewards for Whistle Blowers” among others.
The participants, who lauded the NCCE for respecting them as PWDs and involving them in the fight against corruption, pledged to join the crusade against corruption in their localities.
The forum provided opportunity for many of the participants to ask series of questions pertaining to corruption and the Whistle Blower Act.
