More farmers in Adaklu benefitting from PFJ

Ho, March 12, GNA - The Adaklu District in the Volta Region has recorded more than a 300 per cent increment in the participation of farmers in government’s flagship Planting for Food and Job (PFJ) initiative.

Mr Joseph Abanga, Desk Officer, PFJ Adaklu, said the number tripled after some community engagements. 

In 2017, he said, 318 people registered and benefitted from the initiative but they saw a sharp increase in 2018 with 972 beneficiaries.

In 2018, Mr Abanga said, 317 females benefitted as compared 59 in 2017 while 655 males benefitted as compared to the 259 in 2017.

He attributed the rise to an open market system where farmers could walk into any registered agro shop within the District with their coupons for fertilizers and seeds.

Mr Abanga said more farmers are developing the interest in rice farming as compared to maize due to the availability of market.

He said some farmers harvested 104 bags of rice from their three acre farms last year and are planning to expand their farms this farming season.

Mr Abanga expressed the hope that many farmers would register with the initiative to enjoy the many benefits that come with it.
