Adaklu-Seva (V/R), Mar. 12, GNA - Pencils of Promise, a non-governmental organization with focus on education has started the construction of a three-unit classroom block for the Adaklu-Seva District Assembly Basic School.
The facility, estimated at GH¢350,000.00 will be the first classroom block for pupils in the farming community, with an office, store, washrooms and furniture.
It will replace two thatched structures under, which combined classes of kindergarten to class three are held with lessons suspended during bad weather conditions.
Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director, Pencils of Promise said the project would be completed in three months to offer decent teaching and learning environment to the pupils.
Mr Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu, who joined the people for a communal labour on the project said it was a dream come true and that education was transforming Adaklu.
He said he was supporting the project with 12 per cent of his common fund to bring relief to children who had to walk seven kilometres to school in Sofa with better infrastructure and mothers who could not go to farm because there was no kindergarten to handle their children.
“I am emotional when it comes to education because it is knowledgeable people who construct roads. It is knowledgeable people who build hospitals. A few years ago, there was no school here. Our children trek several miles to school. Our mothers abandon their farms to take care of their children. Thank God today we are here and very soon, we will have light too,” Mr Agbodza said and presented two smart computers to the School.
Mr Dzanku Agbeko, Headmaster of the School said the school lacked textbooks and other teaching and learning materials and expressed gratitude to Pencils of Promise and the MP for the support and foresight.
The maize and cassava growing community has no potable water and depends on River Todze, some nine kilometres away. There is also no health facility in the community.
