Gwollu (U/W), March 12, - An Agric-business entity, Gohuballe Agric Business (GAB), has praised hardworking farmers for the 2018/2019 crop season at Gwolou in the Sissala West District with a call on them to “see agriculture as business and not punishment”.
The organisation rewarded the Kusali Community with 100 bags of cement as the best community in agriculture while Alija Inusah was recognised best female farmer and given a citation, donkey cart and 600 cedis cash.
Mr Bukari Iddirisu was crowned the overall best farmer and took away a tricycle as the ultimate prize with second position going to Mr Bashiru Kaderi Banirivie who went home with a Haojin Motobike,
Mr Issufu Duulu came third and also went home with a bicycle and a knapsack sprayer machine.
The award recipients were recognised due to their invaluable contribution to agricultural growth and development in the Sissala West District noted to be the food basket of the Upper West Region.
Mr Abu John Dimah, the Chief Executive of GAB, started his enterprise with only six acres of land in 2013, but is currently managing over 3,000 acres of maize and other crops cultivated yearly.
He praised efforts of the winners, saying: “It is the vast land coupled with the hardworking men and women that motivated me to go into agric-business".
He called on farmers to avoid multiple input collections, over declaration of farm size and selling of inputs.
Mr Dimah said the Association cultivated 1,000 acres of farmland and is projected to increase it to 5,000 this season.
He said the Association also harvested 40,720 bags of 50 kilogram maize, representing 89 per cent increase over the previous year.
An award recipient, Mr Bashiru Kaderi Banirivie, expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged to work harder for the coming years.
Kuoro of Kusali, Suleman Yusif, congratulated the awardees and urged GAB to spread its efforts in producing cereals and legumes.
