NCCE educates people on bribery and corruption

Accra, March 11, GNA – Mrs Mary Nyamekye Ankrah, the Awutu Senya East Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), said corruption and bribery hindered development and progress in every country.

She said monies supposed to go into government’s coffers for developmental projects found their way into individual’s pockets through corrupt practices and urged the public to join in the crusade against corruption and bribery.

Mrs Ankrah, at a Breakfast Meeting organised by the ICGC Transformation Temple Women’s Ministry (PVV) at Kasoa to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, urged the public to report any corrupt practices to the authorities to curb the menace.

On taxation, she said, government projects such good roads, extension of electricity and potable water to deprived areas as well as the Free Senior High School all depended on taxes for successful implementation.

Mrs Ankrah, therefore, urged the public to acquire Tax Identification Numbers to support government’s effort of developing the country.

Oheneyere Awo Danso Gifty Anti, the Chief Executive Officer of Standpoint Show and a Journalist, speaking on the theme: “A Woman of Power,” urged women to use their God given talents to develop themselves and the country.

“Women of power are women of faith and can change lots of their communities. This is the time for women of power to rise up and pray to God for the salvation of our country,” she said.

Oheneyere Anti urged women to support their families while the younger ones were advised not to rush into marriage.

“Preserve your lives and do not exhaust it on things that will not yield any result in future. There is a season and there is timing - why are you rushing – Let your light shine so that you can show the difference,” she added.

Mrs Hilda Obeng-Manful, President of PVV, said women needed to do something to influence their families, society and the country and urged them to persevere in all fields.

Reverend Obeng-Manful, the Resident Pastor at ICGC Transformation Temple, urged women to use their power to change every circumstance.

He said there was no situation that women could not change and urged them to identify their special power to enable them to change their environment.
