Nsuta (W/R), March 11, GNA - Nsuta Municipal Assembly Basic School at the weekend climaxed its 60th anniversary celebration with a grand durbar.
The occasion was on the theme" Enhancing Academic Excellence demands the role of all Stakeholders of Education".
The durbar saw variety of performances by the pupils ranging from poetry recitals, drama, and choreography among others.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kelvin Ndede in his welcoming address said, Nsuta Basic School was founded in 1959 with 43 pupils and currently has a population of 313.
He said the school, which has produced a lot of prominent citizens in the society, is presently in a deplorable state.
According to him, all the roofing sheets have worn out and the entire structure needs a facelift.
He appealed to philanthropists, institutions, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO's) and the government to come to their aid and construct a new school building.
Mr Ndede again called on the government to enrol them onto the Ghana School Feeding programme as many of the pupils go to school without food and stressed that it made teaching and learning abysmal.
The Guest Speaker for the occasion, Mr Wisdom Adjei Mensah, Human Resource Manager of Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMCL) stated that being the first school in Nsuta community in the early sixties, it had produced eminent people and notable among them is Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, of the Roman Catholic Church.
"If these great men and daughters of the school will have constant interaction with the school, it will be a source of inspiration and encouragement to keep the fire of discipline and academic excellence" he indicated.
He observed that GMCL's role in providing bursaries and scholarships to qualified candidates from all seventeen catchment communities to further their education in second cycle and tertiary institutions was worth mentioning.
Apart from their support, Mr. Adjei Mensah said they have been at the forefront of infrastructural projects by building schools and other amenities for their catchment communities.
In a speech read on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Nsuaem, Mr. Glibert Kennedy Asmah congratulated the management and teachers of Nsuta M/A Basic School for their hard work and discipline in bringing the school this far.
