Kpone (GAR), Feb 26, GNA - The Kpone–Katamanso Municipal directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has cautioned residents to prepare for the rainy season.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Prince Frimpong, Municipal officer in charge of operations, said it is imperative to caution residents to be prepared as the rainy season sets in.
He noted that, indiscriminate sale of unsuitable lands for building to desperate and unsuspecting persons was one of the reasons for the flooding menace in the Municipality.
Residents should consult the appropriate offices for advise when they want to put up buildings, he said.
Mr. Frimpong added that, the municipal NADMO directorate was ready to demolish buildings on water ways to lives.
According to him, the National Disaster Management Organization preferred the preventive approach to the annual ritual of releasing relief items to victims of disasters hence the need to sensitize residents on impending disasters.
The Municipal NADMO operations officer also revealed that, 32 flood prone areas had been identified within the municipality which included Gbetsile, Sraha, Zenu, Kpone and the Landfill site.
He added that the directorate was working tirelessly to make the municipal disaster free but was faced with logistical challenges.
Mr. Prince Frimpong noted that the NADMO directorate did not have a vehicle, relief items among other logistics to make them work effectively.
He also called on the government and benevolent organizations to support the Municipal NADMO directorate to save lives and properties.
