Tema, Feb. 26, GNA - The Adomi Bridge and the Akosombo Dam were not built with Ghana Cement Company (GHACEM) cement, says an octogenarian foreman.
A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency by Mr Kofi D. Awindor, 82, said, " I was among the local young men who worked on the projects and I can tell you that Ghacem cement was not used to build these great structures."
Ghacem has deliberately embarked on a mission to distort and confuse the poor young population about its contribution to the infrastructural development of Ghana through its adverts, he said.
According to him, the company as a lead sponsor of the transmission of the FIFA organized men's football, sought to claim that its products were used to build a number of iconic structures including the Adomi Bridge.
But the senior citizen stated that the structures preceded the entry of Ghacem products onto the Ghanaian market.
The Italian Embassy and the British High Commission in Accra can tell us the contractors and the cement they used to construct those structures.
He said Ghacem had still not made any effort to apologize for the distortion and miseducation of the Ghanaian youth and continued to air adverts that still carry that erroneous message.
"Advertisements are a form of public communication which should be formulated on verifiable facts.
This deliberate historical carnage cannot continue. I am urging them to drop the deception in the name of advertising," the statement said.
Ghacem has declined to comment on the issue despite several requests by the Ghana News Agency.
