Takoradi Feb. 23, GNA -Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC)Limited has developed a comprehensive corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and practice to provide clear guidelines for the implementation of sustainable CSR programmes in communities within its operational areas.
The CSR programmes cover the area of health and sanitation, Education and sports.
Mr Ernest Owusu Bempah, Communication Director of the Ghana National Gas Company made this known during a media encounter in Takoradi on the theme "Ghana Gas: Industry Overview, Achievements, Progress and the Future".
According to him, under the Company's CSR health and sanitation programme, a total of 1,350 indigenes living in Atuabo and Aboadze in the western region had been registered under the National health insurance scheme.
He said an eight seater water closet toilet facility and a mechanised borehole had been provided for the Allabokazo community.
On education, Mr Bempah said four unit teacher's quarters each have been constructed at Anokyi and Asemndasuaza, while an ultra modern nursery facility had also been constructed at Asemndasuaza.
He said GNGC also supported the Nzulezu development committee to rehabilitate their community school block and supplied them with teaching and learning materials.
The Domunli enclave was also provided with cash for the rehabilitation of their only primary school block, while the Kikam Technical Institute received two water tanks.
The communication Director announced that plans were underway to collaborate with the Ghana Institute of Journalism authorities to institute an oil and gas syllabus to train journalists in the proper reportage on the sector.
In the area of sports and youth development, he said GNGC donated cash to Karela United and Nzema Kotoko football clubs.
Touching on the achievements of GNGC, he stated that " judging from the speed with which the business was grown since 2017, it could be concluded that the prospects for GNGC’s future was high as this was working to position the company as a prominent Lean Natural Gas supplier within the energy space in Ghana and West African".
According to him, the indigenisation of the gas processing plant in 2017 had saved the company $3 million monthly, which enabled the company to acquire an ultra modern office facility as head office in Accra.
Mr Bempah said the use of processed Gas from the Atuabo processing plant for power generation in place of light crude oil yielded an average saving of about $42.6 million in 2017 as against $38.6 million in 2015 and that $ 206.4 million was saved in the early part of 2018.
He explained that since the company's commercial operation in 2015, LPG from Atuabo processing plant had on average accounted for 32 percent of national domestic consumption, noting that year on year analysis showed the company supplied 40 of domestic LPG demand in 2017 the highest since the commissioning and commercial operations, thereby reducing LPG import bill by $47 million.
On health, safety security and environment, (HSSE) he said the period under review the company attained an incident- free operations with zero lost time injury and had successfully implemented the risk based process safety management.
