Accra, Feb 25, GNA - Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has been adjudged the 2018 Man of the Year at the Heroes of Distinction Conference and Awards in Accra.
The Heroes of Distinction Conference and Awards ceremony is an annual event, which is organised by the West Africa International Press Limited, publishers of West Africa International Magazine to honour outstanding Ghanaian entrepreneurs for their contribution to the economic growth of Ghana in the year 2018.
Nana Dankawoso I was honoured for his dignity, dedication and exemplary leadership in business, which has contributed to the socio-economic growth and development of the country.
The awards ceremony was on the theme: “Two Years of Akuffo Addo’s Government, the Balance Sheet with Special Emphasis on the Free Education Policy”.
Some of the recipients of the awards were Morgan International Community School, Mumuadu Rural Bank, Northern Hill International School, Lister Hospital and Fertility Centre, Medi-Moses Prostrate Centre, Bluecrest College, Kwaebibirem Rural Bank and First Choice Hair and Beauty.
The rest were Professor Goski Alabi, Lecturer, University of Professional Studies, Manbah Gas Company Limited, Redeemer Herbal and Research Centre, Akate Farms and Trading Company Limited, Capital O2 Natural Health Company Limited, Merton International School, Pharmatrust Pharmacy Limited, Azmera Restaurant, KEK Insurance Brokers and Microfin Rural Bank.
Nana Dankawoso I, commended the organisers for the honour done him and dedicated the awards to widows, orphans and prisoners in the country.
He commended the organizations for their immense contributions to the economy, and called on government to support the private sector because 96 per cent of the workforce were employed by the private sector.
Nana Dankawoso said the chamber was committed to mentoring and undertaking capacity building programmes for young entrepreneurs to grow their businesses as well as encouraging them to take up leadership roles to deepen Ghana’s gains economically and socially.
He said the Chamber has pledged its support to government in achieving a shared vision of growth and prosperity for all Ghanaians through private sector empowerment.
Mr Carlos Ahenkora, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry said government’s Free Senior High School Policy was to allow children to access quality education and avoid school drop-outs, which was affecting the country.
He said government had ensured a stable economy with inflation rate at 9 per cent and also introduced the NABCO policy to provide employment opportunity for graduates.
The Deputy Minister assured the public that government would continue to introduce policies that would lead to holistic development in all sectors of the economy.
Dr Dee Otibu-Asare, the Chief Executive Officer of West Africa International Press Limited, called for support for indigenous entrepreneurs who have shown genuine intention for growth of the economy, especially those whose capital levels do not equate that of their foreign counterparts.
