Accra, Feb. 22, GNA - A total of 260,000 delegates are expected to vote in the National Democratic Congress primaries for a Presidential candidate on Saturday Feb, 23 to select one of the seven aspirants to lead the party in the 2020 general election.
Polls will start 0700 hours and close at 1700 hours in all constituencies except those under curfew, where voting will end at 1500 hours to enable delegates get home early.
The delegates include; all nine branch executives in all polling stations, 28 constituency executives, all regional and national executives, former Presidents and former Vice Presidents of the Party, and former Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
Others are; Regional and National Council of Elders, sitting Members of Parliament, former
Members of Parliament, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and former presidential staffers who are members of the Party.
Mr Cobby Barlon, Deputy National Organiser of the Party, in an interview with the GNA in Accra, said voting would be conducted in all the 275 constituencies across the country, with a separate polling centre at the Party's Headquarters to serve the foreign branches and some members of National Council of Elders.
He said each foreign branch would bring 15 delegates to cast their ballots.
He said for the sake of proximity, the Ivory Coast Chapter would cast their votes at Jomoro in the Western region, while Nigeria, Benin and Togo Chapters would cast their votes in the Ketu South.
On security arrangement, Mr Barlon said the Security and Intelligence Committee had liaised with the Ghana Police Service to give them security, adding that apart from the Ghana Police Service, no internal security would be allowed.
He said so far, the processes had been transparent-and issues raised by the aspirants have been addressed and printing, numbering and packaging completed, with all aspirants having their seals on all the ballot paper bags.
Mr Barlon said all ballot papers had already gone to the regions and that of the constituencies were on-going and therefore, urged all delegates to come with their voters identification cards and other relevant documents and cast their vote in peace.
He urged them to comply with the law governing elections in the country to pave way for the Party to recapture owners in 2020.
The seven aspirants are; former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Joshua Alabi, Mr Ekow Spio Gabrah, Mr Kingsford Bagbin, Mr Sylvester Mensah, Goosie Tanoh and iddrisu Nurudeen.
Meanwhile, the National Executives are preparing to organise a News conference later on Friday to outline the activities for Saturday’s primaries.
