Yaw Tenkorang (E/R), Feb. 22, GNA-Unique Smile Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) in Massachusetts, United States of America, has donated educational materials to the Afuni Presbyterian Primary School at Yaw Tenkorang in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.
The items worth over Gh¢5,000.00 included 150 school bags, pens and pencils, school shoes, books, erazers, sharpeners, crayons, socks, recreational items, biscuits and drinks.
At a short ceremony to present the items, Dr Janet Koranteng Asare, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation said, the gesture was to help increase enrolment in the schools and help promote quality education.
She said her organization chose the school for the programme because they realized most parents in the area could not afford school bags and other materials for their wards due to poverty.
Dr Asare assured that his outfit would collaborate with other NGOs to donate educational materials to schools in deprived villages across the district.
Dr Asare urged the parents to take their ward’s education seriously and warned them to desist from using them for their farm work during school hours.
She encouraged the pupils not to let the environment in which they find themselves be a hindrance to their potentials but rather persevere to achieve their dreams.
Receiving the items, Mr Jacob Ntim, the Acting Head teacher of the school, expressed gratitude to the Foundation, saying, "I believe the school bags given to them will help them a lot because most of them don't have it and we the teachers find this situation very worrying, since they can't keep their notes books for long periods especially during raining season".
Mr. Ntim therefore, assured that the teachers would also do their best to raise the children to become better leaders in future.
