Accra, Feb. 21, GNA – The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Ghana in collaboration with WELTFILME.org would begin a three-day conference dubbed: “Kick off Conference” to establish a Media Hub Education Centre (MHEC) in Accra.
The MHEC would serve as an inclusive and low-threshold film school with continuous qualification of West African filmmakers and as a centre for film production projects and networking.
It would train the students to become responsible media producers, improve their job opportunities in the media sector and to serve the West African Sub Region.
A statement issued by the YMCA Ghana and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the conference, which would start from March 19, 2019 would seek to draw from stakeholders and experts on how the MHEC could take advantage of the “business aspects” or the economic opportunities that lie within the film industry.
It said the conference would build upon the successes of the “All on Board” film project initiated by WELTFILME.org and YMCA Ghana in March 2018.
The statement said the initiative had so far trained more than 80 young talented filmmakers and film producers in the fields of writing, editing and in the production of fictional and documentary films.
“The partnership between WELTFILME.org and YMCA Ghana had also led to the production of six short films comprising three fictional movies and three documentaries highlighting issues of discrimination and abuse in the West African Sub Region,” the statement said.
It said the beneficiaries of the initiatives continue to excel in the production of films that uncover the untold stories in the African society and “our trainers and trainees have become a pool of talents in the sub region, using the medium film to address key questions in their respective communities.”
