Tema, Feb. 20, GNA - The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has appealed to companies operating in the Spintex light industrial enclave to help the Assembly develop their immediate surroundings.
Mrs Adwoa Amoako, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, made the appeal during a round-table with representatives of all establishments within the enclave.
Mrs Amoako said the Assembly was barely a year old and therefore needed the assistance of stakeholders especially the companies to help shape some of the minor roads within the enclave.
She indicated that even though the Assembly and the Ministry of Roads and Highways had developed a scope to construct all major roads and drainage in the area, the connecting roads to the companies needed some attention.
She noted that the Assembly’s budget was not enough and therefore urged the companies to consider shaping the roads linking their companies to the major roads as part of their corporate social responsibility.
According to her, her outfit wanted to speed up development in the area hence the need to discuss ways and means to address the poor state of the roads.
Mr Felix Asiedu, Tema West Municipal Roads Engineer, on his part, encouraged the companies to collaborate with the Assembly to do the construction at a cheaper cost.
Mr Asiedu announced the construction of some kilometres of road spanning the Coca-Cola roundabout and Cambodia area, among others.
He appealed to residents and companies to see it as a civic responsibility to desilt gutters in front of their homes and facilities as well as the beautification of their frontage.
Some of the company representatives expressed their worry about the deplorable roads in the enclave as according to them it was sad to see workers wading through mud to work.
They also implored the Assembly to ensure good sanitation as some of the company premises were always filled with mosquitoes which bred in the pockets of slums in the area.
Some also complained of the influx of foreigners into the enclave especially females who engaged in prostitution in the ever increasing clubs and pubs which made excessive noise anytime of the day.
They questioned why the Assembly issued permits to developers to put up structures in the light industrial area close to factories against planning laws.
