Accra, Feb.20, GNA - Amet consult, an entrepreneurship and career coaching organisation that seeks to bridge the gap between academia and corporate environment is holding a seminar to motivate young graduates and individuals to find jobs in the Oil and Gas industry.
Topics, such as; general overview of the offshore and onshore industry, accredited training centres in Ghana and Nigeria, jobs/projects coming online, certifications and standards in the industry, list of third-party companies to start career with coaching on the application process for job placements would be treated.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Emmanuel Ametsi, the Managing Partner of Amet consult said the seminar was organised to equip participants in Oil and Gas industry, and to motivate them to sustain their interest in the course as there were lots of opportunities in it and would therefore help them nationwide.
He said “It has come to our realisation that, lots of people in Ghana are interested in getting into the industry, but have no knowledge in the requirement’’.
He added that, People think the industry was only meant for those who pursued Petroleum Engineering and all other Engineering courses.
Mr Ametsi announced there were so many job avenues in the industry, especially pipeline inspectors in the industry need to acquire lots of skills to get there.
He said the seminar would expose people into the industry to understand their operations and what was done, since certification was a major requirement for recruitment, especially Table and pipeline inspectors among others.
According to Mr Ametsi, “it has been observed that expatriates are dominating the sector than Ghanaians due to lack of highly qualified skilled labour in the country. This is due to the fact that, local folks are not exposed to the industry, and therefore have limited knowledge and understanding of the industry requirement. As a result, most people go in for some oil and gas courses that are not relevant to the industry’’ he said.
He noted that, most people lacked specific industry skills and knowledge about job locations.
“The seminar is not for only jobseekers, but all who are interested in getting jobs in the industry. Thus, there’s no need for first degree, master’s degree to pursue all these skills, but with practical training, participants can acquire knowledge in the course within eight months.’’ He added.
The one-day seminar is scheduled to take place in Accra, on Saturday, March 2,2019.
He said Certificates would be awarded to participants after the completion of the seminar.
“we hope after this seminar, the participants will be well informed and take steps in acquiring the right skills for the industry, thereby positioning themselves well for job opportunities in the oil and Gas sector’’, He emphasised.
