Takoradi Feb. 18, GNA - A colourful ceremony was held at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral, Takoradi to bid farewell to Most Reverend Bishop John Bonaventure Kwofie, who is on transfer to the Archdiocese of Accra.
Bishop Kwofie who was named the Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Catholic Church by Pope Francis in January this year, is replacing Bishop Gabriel Palmer-Buckle who was also transferred to the Archdiocese of Cape Coast.
He has been in the Sekondi Takoradi Diocese for the past five years.
A high mass co-celebrated by more than 50 priests, was also attended by traditional rulers, Metropolitan Chief executives, representative from Orthodox Anglican church, Ahmadiyya Mission and all parishes of the diocese.
In a sermon, Bishop Kwofie commended the priests, the religious and lay faithful in the diocese for their support and prayers which had contributed to his elevation to the position of an Archbishop and urged them to continue to pray and support him since he was taking up a higher position and more responsibilities.
He urged them to build the right attitude and obey rules and laws of God and the government as many people were going through challenges and sufferings for failing to obey simple rules and regulations.
"Obey the Laws of God and you will have a perfect happiness and blessings, be faithful to God and he will bless you ".
He bemoaned the fact that people were going by their own time table and not what God had planned for them. "The scared man is the one who puts his trust in man, but the blessed one is he who puts his trust in God".
Bishop Kwofie was born in Apowa in the Western Region on 26 April 1958 and was ordained into the priesthood on 27 July 1988.
His first assignment after ordination was an associate pastor of St Joseph parish in the diocese of Banjul.
He has served as the President of the conference of major superiors of Religious men in Ghana from 1998-2004.
He was the first Assistant General of the Holy Spirit consecration from 2004-2012.
