Accra Feb. 11, GNA - ‘Press On Kids’ has held the second ‘Kids in Worship’ concert to unearth talents hidden in children as a way of preparing them as future leaders for the church and country.
The concert also seeks to inculcate in children moral values by making them learn the word of God as they sing to worship their maker.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony at the Interdenominational Church, Legon, the Executive Director of ‘Press On Kids’, Mr. Worlanyo Afenyo, informed that, “Children don’t only learn from what we tell them; they learn from what we model; they watch us first before they hear us, and so we can’t tell them to go to church when we don't and do wrong when we are with them.”
He asked government to continue to create the right environment and opportunities for children to have less material needs and grow in the fear of God.
“There are certain things that come into our nation very subtly as if they’re for our welfare, but there is a hidden agenda which will not inure to the well-being of our children, so government should guard against them for the sake of our future leaders, “he stressed.
Mr. Afenyo informed that the idea behind the ‘Press On Kids’ concept was to give children an alternative in learning the word of God, because it was difficult sometimes to find locally designed godly content on our networks for children.
He observed that Sunday Schools and Bible Clubs did a lot in bringing up leaders of today by giving them a foundation and therefore hoped that the ‘Press On Kids’ would add up to what had been achieved.
The Executive Secretary of ‘Press On Kids’, Mrs. Pearl Dzidzoli Afenyo, informed that children were “gifts from God and we stood to render accounts on every gift we got from God so if you are a parent and you are not helping your child to know God and giving them the right materials to become responsible citizens to God’s glory, God will ask you one day.”
Mrs. Afenyo said that the concert was one of the means to praise God, because, “There are so many things going on in the world now and we believe that if we give children the right training through the word of God, through music and teaching, they would make it through this troubled world and to Heaven.”
She said Church leaders were losing sight of the children whilst they developed the adults and the youth.
“We shouldn’t wait till they go wayward before we start praying. God has given us all the chance to write on their blank hearts and they would not depart from it,” she said.
Mrs. Afenyo said church leaders should develop the gifts of the children and channel them towards God so that the moral degradation going on in society would be curbed and make the nation sane for God’s glory.
She informed that children “learnt what they lived,” and even though Ghanaians profess to be largely religious, the sort of things that went on around us were not good for the attention of children.
‘Press On Kids’ is an inter-denominational group of children who sing gospel by “putting picture to song” which involved taking memory verses and composing them into music for easy memorization and recollection of scripture.
The group is over ten years old and would be launching its latest album dubbed, “Sing the word” shortly.
The organisation has over 300 memory verse songs which were under recording for websites and television viewership so that parents could have alternatives as children.
‘Press On Kids’ is expected to be one of the ‘go to’ children groups in the nation and across the world and a training hub for children to develop their gifts and talents to the glory of God.
