Hohoe (V/R), Feb. 6, GNA - Fair River International Association for Development (FARIAD), a community driven development organization has organised a two-day workshop for stakeholders in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on career guidance in Hohoe.
It was a joint European Union Vocational Education and Training Toolbox (EU VET TOOLBOX) implementation programme on the theme: “expanding knowledge and initiative in career guidance and counselling towards effective labour market expectation and sustainable development".
Mr. Joseph Agbeko, Executive Director of FARIAD, said the workshop was to offer the various stakeholders the opportunity to deliberate on the issues affecting TVET schools and training centres and how best to address them.
He said it was also to take the stakeholders through career counselling, curriculum development, how to engage in private public partnership and to look at the possible ways to ensure inclusion of the vulnerable and the disabled.
Mr. Agbeko said when students were well equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills, it would enable them to create their own businesses and enhance standard of living, as well as also meet the expectation of the labour market.
Mr. Freeman Gyebi, Planning Officer, National Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI), said TVET remained the master to accelerating the socioeconomic development of the country.
He said it was untrue that TVET was for the those who were not academically good, adding that, plans were afoot to educate the public on the importance of TVET.
Mr. Gyebi said plans were also underway to resource TVET schools in the country with the needed equipment to enhance their performance through regular practical works.
The workshop also looked at competency- based training and how best to orient students to make the rightful choice of courses among others.
It brought together over 15 TVET schools and training centres in the Volta region and was sponsored by GIZ, the British Council and Enable.
