Tumu (U/WR), JAN 6 GNA - As part of its vision to partner government in development, the Pentecost Church, has donated 40 bags of cement to the Ghana Police Service in Tumu for construction of a concrete wall to protect the Charge Office.
The contribution is in response to last year's clash between some irate youth in the town which resulted in the wanton destruction of the Police Station and some property including; vehicles which put security under threat.
Tumu Area Apostle of Pentecost Church, Apostle Daniel K. Dakpor, who presented the cement, said leadership of the church had decided to partner government and to help in areas that called for urgent attention.
"We have some selected institutions like the prisons, the police and also decided to help in environmental care by making the country or the environment in which will leave clean".
He said the Church had decided to visit some prison centres to help put up structures in order to minimise accommodation problems facing inmates. “It is just a start and our hope is that we will continue to give more in future”.
The Sissala East Municipal Commander, DSP Stephen Abanga, expressed gratitude over the gesture and said since the destruction caused to the Police Charge Office, the department had been trying to renovate it, but “fencing the police station to protect property became necessary”.
“That is why we have gone out to appeal for assistance and Pentecost Church has responded by donating some cement that will assist in the construction of the wall,” he said.
The Police Station vandalised last year by some rampaging youth would approximately require hundred bags of cement to construct fence around the facility to protect lives and property.
DSP Abanga appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to emulate the gesture of the Church towards the project.
The Church also announced plans to launch a campaign soon to educate the public on the need to protect and care for the environment.
It would seek to engage in activities such as clean-up exercises in several communities including; 13 branches of the Church located in various areas of the Municipality.
“Society needs to take good care of the environment, which God gave to man as he created the environment and things in it before creating man,” the Apostle said, and asked people to make the “environment alive as our existence depended on it”.
