Accra, Jan. 17, GNA – The Local Government Service Council (LGSC) has dismissed Mr Ike Afenyi Donkor, a Senior Executive Officer at the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Municipal Assembly from the Local Government Service (LGS).
This was in a letter dated January 8, 2019, signed by Mr James Oppong-Mensah, the Acting Chief Director of the LGS and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
The dismissal decision was taken at the last meeting of the LGSC held on December 19, 2018 with immediate effect.
This follows the decision to uphold the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee of the KEEA Assembly’s report on his active participation in partisan politics.
The report found that Mr Donkor contested an election for the position of the Central Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in an election held on September 1, 2018 at Kasoa in the Central Region.
His decision to contest the NDC election was contrary to the Supreme Court judgement in suit no. JI/16/2017 in the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) Vrs the Attorney General, the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service June 14, 2017, and in the light of clauses 1.4, 1.5 and 1.7 of the Local Government code of conduct of 2014.
The dismissal letter was also copied to the Head of the LGS, the Controller and Accountant General, the Central Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive of the KEEA.
The dismissal is to serve as a deterrent to staff of the LGS who intends to participate in partisan politics to resign and protect the image of the service.
The letter wished Mr Donkor success in his next endeavour.
