Koforidua (E/R), Jan. 12, GNA - FAPIMPA Foundation, a Civil Society Organization (CSO) with focus on empowering communities through leadership, charity work and skills training, has launched one of its priority programs, the ‘’Zongo Boot Camp’’ at Koforidua.
The ’Zongo Boot Camp’ seeks to give individuals intensive skills training on software and hardware training in digital literacy, which includes social media skills and email management, Microsoft IC3, a certified programme by Microsoft as well as introduction to cyber security.
Other training courses are mobile phone repairs, food preparation and preservation, mushroom cropping and beads making.
The training is in partnership with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) and organizations such as eCampus.
The Zongo Boot camp is targeted at training close to 80 people from the ages of 14 years from selected Zongo communities in a district or municipality.
The ’Boot camp’ concept is a 22 month project and has been designed to suit students, professionals, religious bodies and the Zongo communities.
It consists of series of integrated knowledge and skills training workshops and seminars aligned to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
Addressing the gathering which was attended by the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, chiefs in the zongo community and opinion leaders, as well as parents and students, Mr Isaac Apaw-Gyasi, New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, said one of his prime focus is education.
He said this has necessitated his outfit to partner a private agency to organize classes for the green and gold track students under the Free Senior High School in the municipality.
He said the assembly is putting together a sponsorship scheme for 20 brilliant but needy tertiary students in the municipality, out of which five students will be selected from the Zongo community.
Mr Apaw-Gyasi said the government’s Zongo Development Fund (ZDF) which has gained parliamentary approval is also geared to speed up development of the Zongo communities in the country.
He said to achieve the Goal four of the Sustainable Development Goal’s (SDG’s) it required the contribution of all relevant stakeholders.
Ms Mariam Mansa, the Acting Eastern Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), said every young person in the society needed to be empowered to build his or her capacity to discover wealth-creating opportunities irrespective of their status.
She urged all stakeholders in youth development to play their role in ensuring that the young ones can realize their aspirations for greater success and prosperity.
Mr W.H Kobina Adomadzi Longdon, the Executive Coordinator of FAPIMPA Foundation, expressed optimism that the ’Boot Camp’ concept would yield the desired results.
He said it’s FAPIMPA’s conviction that individuals living in today’s technological world would refresh their minds on some of the changing opportunities that modern information through technology provide for personal and professional profiting.
He said the ‘boot camp’ is targeting 100 religious’ organizations, 100 professional groups, agencies, coalitions, 100 schools and colleges, 100 zongo communities, 100 youth groups and 1000 youths across 10 Municipals and Districts in the Eastern Region.
