Accra, Jan. 10, GNA – A Mechanic Abraham Adjetey Sowah, who has been in custody since March 2018 for possessing firearms without lawful authority, was on Thursday granted bail by an Accra circuit court.
This was after he has been in custody for almost a year and with the trial yet to commence so the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh granted him bail in the sum of Gh¢150,000.00 with two sureties, one to be justified.
The court also asked the prosecution to file their witness statements and the defence counsel to file all the relevant documents they would be relying on for the trial before the next adjourned date.
The case has since been adjourned to January 30.
Prosecuting, Superintendent Patience Mario said the complainant Adu Abraham is a mason and lives at Oshuiman near Amasaman, while the accused person, Abraham is a motor mechanic and lives at Obom near Ashalaja.
She said on February 27, 2018 the complainant Adu, together with his brothers, were digging a foundation on a piece of land belonging to Jaa Construction Ltd at Oshuiman.
The prosecution said while they were at work, Abraham and five others suspected to be land guards approached them and asked them to stop the work.
She told the court that when the complainant and his brothers refused, the accused person pulled out a pump action gun No. 44416 from his dress and in an attempt to load it, the complainant and his brothers rushed on him and disarmed him.
Superintendent Mario said Abraham struggled with the complainant, but fled and went into hiding however the complainant later brought the gun to the Amasaman Police Station and lodged a complaint there.
She said on March 8, 2018, Abraham resurfaced at Oshuiman and was arrested and sent to the Amasaman Police station.
