Ashaiman, Jan 09, GNA - The Ashaiman Cirrcuit Court presided over by Justice Gabriel Mate-Teye has convicted two persons to fines or in in default, spend six months in jail.
Adzo Stephen was fined 100.penalty units whiles John Newtown Fiagbedu was fined 120.penalty units.
Mr. George Kartey, the prosecution officer for sanitation related offenses for the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, told the court that, the first accused person, Adzo Stephen was a trader and sold his wares at Middle East, community in Ashaiman.
The sanitation prosecution officer further told the court that, the environmental health officers on the 15th September 2018 visited the accused person’s shop and after inspection, found out that nine rows of coffee containing 10 pieces each, had all expired since May 2018.
He again added that another 12 caned dalphnis Mushroom was found which had also expired since July 2018 yet the accused has displayed same for sale to the public.
The accused, Adzo Stephen, was charged with the offense of offering an expired food product for sale contrary to section 53 sub-section 1(a) of the Public Health Act 851/2012.
Mr Kartey further revealed that, the second accused person James Newton Fiagbedu, the managing director of Partel Enterprise at Valco flat, also within the Ashaiman Municipality, was arrested over poor hygienic practices, he noted that the environmental health officers visited the second accused person’s working premises and found out that the premises had not been swept for some period.
He said the officers saw some chocked drains on the premises posing as heath threat to workers and residents.
The two pleaded guilty.
