Gomoa (C/R) Accra, Jan. 8, GNA - Apostle Dr Kwadwo Sarfo, Founder and Leader of Christo Asafo Church, has developed an organic fertiliser, pesticide and weedicide towards improving crop yields to feed the country’s ever-growing population.
The biodiversity-friendly fertiliser, has a fertility lifespan of six years, while the pesticide, formulated with plants, helps rid livestock and plant of pests, while aiding pollination.
The weedicide also kills unwanted plants by halting photosynthesis within 11 hours of its application.
Apostle Sarfo announced this when a two-member delegation, made up of Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Minister of Environment Science Technology and Innovation, and Mr Oliver Boakye, Special Advisor to the Ministry paid a visit to the farm.
Beside familiarising themselves with the many home-grown innovations, in the areas of agriculture, engineering, and technology, the visit, at the instance of the President, also was to identify and formally discuss how the Government could partner him to expand and commercialise some of his inventions.
Apostle Sarfo explained that his three agro-based innovations were not harmful to humans as compared to the imported chemical fertilisers and pesticides, which had side effects anytime farmers got in contact with them.
“With my products, you do not need to cover your nose or any part of your body when you are applying any of it. It is not poisonous to humans like the imported ones on the market,” he emphasised.
“When an animal gets any kind of infestation, we use the pesticide to thoroughly bath it and between three and seven days the animal is free,” he said. “People of Odembo and the surrounding communities, on daily basis, bring their animals for healing from pest infestation.”
On expansion, Apostle Sarfo, said he had plans to build a production facility in Agogo, in the Ashanti Region to produce the three products in commercial quantities, which would be cheaper.
He questioned why chemical fertilisers and pesticides seeking to improve the health of crops should harm humans.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated that the Government appreciated and cherished the inventions of Apostle Dr Sarfo and thus would provide the needed support for his inventions, adding that, the improved agricultural technologies, were a priority to government.
He said as part of initial support, the Government would facilitate the regulatory process that includes licensing, intellectual property registration, trade secrecy and patenting regimes.
On the expansion and the commercial production of Apostle Sarfo’s agro products, the Minister said it would help reduce the importation of agro-chemical products and reduce the stress on nation’s forex.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said, “If we want to live fruitful lives we need to urgently develop our local capacity and expand the agricultural sector to meet the basic necessities of life, thus cheaply feeding ourselves.
“I have never seen any country that had to survive and develop without the ability of its people to use local means to ensure food security and to defend themselves. Overall, we need to appreciate and eat what we grow.”
