Tema (Sakumono), Jan 8, GNA - Mr Fred Nana Ofori Amoah, an Assembly member aspirant for the Sakumono electoral area, has commenced a fumigation exercise in the Sakumono estate to rid the community off insects and rodents.
The exercise, which is being carried out in phases, witnessed the D and C lines of the estate fumigated to prevent mosquitoes and rodent infestation and to promote sanitary practices in the community.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the exercise, Mr Ofori Amoah said mosquitoes and rodents had invaded the community causing discomfort and posing a health risk to residents.
He said, the hitherto clean community had given way to filth adding that “tackling the insanitary practices in the Sakumono enclave would be my major priority when voted for in the forthcoming district level”.
According to him, the residual spraying of insects, mosquitoes and other flies was a measure to stop the wide spread of diseases such as malaria, cholera, typhoid.
The assembly member aspirant said prevention of mosquito bites was a step to controlling malaria, adding that periodical treatment of stagnant water, control of weeds could avoid mosquito breeding.
He said security was of major concern of some residents he had interacted with over the time, adding that the youth would be adequately mobilized to effectively deal with the crime situation in the area.
Youth development, he further stated, would be critically considered to harness the many talents that abound in the community to build better lives for the teeming unemployed youth and for the ultimate development of the electoral area.
