Accra, Dec 12, GNA - The newly formed University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) baseball team, has tasted first defeat in a five inning friendly encounter with Tema Royals from Tema in Accra.
The game, which was played at the school's sports complex ended 11 runs to 1, in favour of team Royals and attracted many students and lecturers on campus.
Team UPSA, held the experienced opponents from Tema to a clean score sheet after the first and second innings, due to tactical communication between their pitcher and catcher, which prevented any hits from the visiting team.
But the home team could not absorb the pressure mounted on them during the third inning of the game as they went down by five runs to nothing due to lack of concentration.
UPSA surprised the visiting team in the early minutes into the fourth inning by hitting a low and long drive which went through the infielders and beyond the outfielders to recording their first score.
This angered the much experienced side to increase their tally by adding 6 more runs as they wanted to keep a clean sheet into the return encounter next year.
Coach Mohammed Ali, the Director for sports at UPSA congratulated both teams for the display of sportsmanship, making sure the exciting game ended without any injury.
Coach Ali praised team UPSA for the fight against the much experienced team from Tema and promised a win on the return game next semester.
The Director lauded the organizers for introducing the game in the school, which according to him would increase the number of sporting disciplines on campus.
He called on other universities to take up baseball so that it can be added to the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games.
