Namoo (UE), Nov 28, GNA – The youth of Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region has resolved to pool resources together to support quality education in the area.
Celebrating their first anniversary, the Namoosi Su-Nyeliga, the youth group, called on members of the community resident and abroad, to come together and undertake development projects especially in support of basic education.
Namoo consist of 10 communities with different chiefs and traditional rulers and the group is open to every person from the Namoo catchment area.
The aim of the group is to mobilize resources through annual and festival celebrations to complement government in solving some of the challenges in the schools and support students in the area.
Mr Anyane Karim Abdulai, the acting Chairman of the group, said that quality education in the area was low and attributed the cause to the numerous challenges including lack of furniture, textbooks, potable water and other teaching and learning materials that schools in the area were faced with.
He said as a result of extreme poverty, many students who completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) successfully over the years could not continue their education and the youth thought it wise to unite and raise funds to support the schools to improve their academic work.
Mr Abdulai explained that for the country to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goal four, which emphasizes on equitable quality and inclusive education, concerted effort from all stakeholders including the youth of the area was needed to realize it.
He said the funds that would be realized in this year’s celebration would be used to provide furniture and other pressing needs of the schools especially the basic schools, to complement government’s drive towards universal access to education.
Mr Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, the Bongo District Chief Executive, underscored the need for coordinated stakeholder approach towards investment in education as it was the realistic hope of developing the District.
He admonished students against drug abuse and alcoholism and urged them to focus on developing themselves through education.
He assured the people that government was instituting measures to ensure electricity access, which was a key component of education in the three regions of the north.
The occasion was graced by Mr Lawrence Apaalse, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Energy, Mr Robert Agene, a retired educationist, the Chiefs and Queen Mothers and youth among others.
