New Abirem (E/R), Nov. 28, GNA - The Birim North District Assembly has presented sewing machines with accessories to 40 youths as a support to enable them undergo apprenticeship training in dressmaking.
The project funded with the Assembly's Internal Generated Fund (IGF) cost GH¢22,000.00 and forms part of the government's efforts in creating jobs for the youths across the country.
At a short ceremony to present the items to the beneficiaries, Mr Raymond Nana Damptey, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said each of the beneficiaries had been assigned a master craftsman for the training and beneficiaries would be engaged for the next 18 months.
To enable the master craftsmen give off their best, he explained that the Assembly would be paying a total of GH¢300.00 for each of the apprentices to the master craftsmen.
Mr Damptey said the Assembly had plans to extend the programme in the near future to ensure that it covered many unemployed youths in the District.
Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyeretwie I, the Chief of Abirem and the Acting Akyem Kotoku Gyaasehene, applauded the Assembly for the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to help reduce indecent moral attitudes among the youths.
He said to ensure the success of the programme, the traditional authorities together with the Assembly, would carry out frequent monitoring of the programme.
Obrempong therefore advised the apprentices to concentrate on learning the trade and to avoid any lifestyle that could lead to sudden end of the skill training.
