Accra, Nov. 6, GNA - The Rotary District 9102 has commenced the celebration of this year’s World Interact Week with a launch to bring together all Interact clubs in the country and challenge them to innovate ideas for service projects.
The Interact week was launched in Accra by Mr Johnson Dweben, the District Interact Chair, who called on participating schools to observe the various activities marking the day.
Activities to mark the week continues after the launch, with a ‘People of Action’ social media campaign on Tuesday.
On Thursday, there will be an unveiling of the Korle-Bu Children’s Ward project, which would be followed by Interact Day celebration at various schools.
The week will be crowned on Saturday with a walk from St. Aquinas Senior High School to Christ the King Catholic Church, and Inter-schools talent show competition.
Mr Dweben described the Interact club as a programme created for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years by Rotary International, a service organisation, whose motto is ‘service above self’.
It was established 56years ago to connect with other young people and have fun while serving their communities through solving problems as well as learning about the world, he said.
Mr Dweben said the membership has grown up to 15,000 Interact clubs in 142 countries, adding that the Rotary clubs mentors the young ones from the younger age with the goal of preparing them with the mindset of service to the nation.
He said interlocutors are guided by the Rotary’s four way test, thus “…of the things we think, say or do, is it the Truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendship, will it be beneficial to all concerned”.
This year’s celebration is expected to give opportunities to various clubs to do an additional project in partnership with each other and also provide an opportunity to fellowship with Retractors and Rotarians.
Ms Brittny Adum-Yeboah, the Interact Representative for District 9102 and the President of Interact club at Roman Ridge School, said the club was able to raise GH¢40,000.00 to support the fight against Diabetes.
She said the club also created awareness and campaigned against added sugar, which has yielded positive results.
The Interact clubs are present in 15 schools across the country but present at the launch were Roman Ridge, St. Thomas Acquinas and St. John's Grammar Senior High Schools.
