Bolgatanga (UE), Nov 6, GNA - The Bolgatanga branch of the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS), has organized an educational funfair for children in various primary schools in the Bolgatanga Municipal.
The funfair was to create awareness about the benefit of early childhood arithmetic calculation development and the need for schools within the Municipality to embrace the UCMAS module.
Mr Joseph Nketia, the Chief Executive Officer of UCMAS Bolgatanga, said the UCMAS concept was aimed at helping children become independent critical thinkers in future so as to be able to solve the everyday problems of society.
Mr Nketia explained that the modules of UCMAS was geared towards a holistic development of the child and the modules helped in improving the brain capacity of children, listening skills, creativity, concentration and the ability to compete academically with their peers in school.
He called on parents and school authorities to enroll and adopt UCMAS approach to learning as that would cure arithmophobia that many students are faced with in the country.
Mrs Finela Asoke, a parent and CEO of Asofra Plus, admonished the children to take their studies serious by obeying the instruction of their teachers so as to prepare them for bigger responsibilities in future.
Miss Melvina Kpemka, an 11 year old class 5 people of the Great Victory Academy said she used to be scared of mathematics but since she started learning UCMAS, she could add, subtract and multiple numbers easily.
The school children numbering over 200 were drawn from selected primary schools in the Bolgatanga Municipal and its environs.
