Bolgatanga, Oct. 29, GNA – The Upper East Regional Office of the Ghana News Agency was at the weekend burgled with thieves taking away the only two desktop computers in the newsroom.
The thieves also stole three laptops, accessories and unspecified number of cartridges belonging to SIGA Computers, an adjoining computer training center on the first floor of the two storey block.
The incident happened around 0400 hours of Saturday, when security men during an All Night Service at Christ Embassy Church close to the office, noticed an unusual movement of people carrying a ladder around the GNA office.
According to some members of the Church, the security men around the target block were alerted, but the thieves got away when they sensed they were noticed and run away leaving behind the ladder used in accessing the building from behind, some computers and accessories, which were believed to have been stolen from an earlier operation.
The Police later visited the scene after a police report was lodged by staff of GNA and investigation is currently ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Mr Edmond Addo, Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, advised that with the current spate of robbery in the country, people should be more security conscious by protecting their properties.
He noted that the thieves were able to have easy access to the GNA office because the office has no burglar proof on the windows and doors.
