Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - The youth, especially those still in school, have been urged not to limit themselves to a single careers, but to learn many more that will provide them alternatives in life.
“Do not box yourself into a limited space. Be open. You could go all the way to do your PHD and yet, end up choosing a field of work that does not necessarily require that qualification.”
Mr Larry Jiagge, a past President of the Rotary Club of Ghana, said this in Accra, at a symposium to mark the sixtieth anniversary of Rotary Club in Ghana.
Themed, “Believe, Begin and Become a Leader,” the symposium mainly sought to encourage and educate young members of the Rotary club who are also called Rotaractors, particularly on career choices, and the need to adequately equip themselves for the job market.
He said by having multi-careers people increased their chances of finding a fulfilling job.
Mr Jiagge who is also a consultant in Risk Management and Advisory, observed that whilst it was common for young people to have rigid ideas on their future careers, such notions easily changed as the years went by.
He said many young people typically grew up to realise that what they thought was their dream profession, was not what they would even like to dedicate their lives to after all.
Mr Jiagge urged the Rotaractors not to limit themselves to just one area of study, and strive to read as widely as possible, adding that it would help them identify as many potential areas as possible that they could explore.
Dr. Lynda Decker, Vice Chair of the Health Federation of Ghana and a special guest for the occasion, said the time had come for young graduates to erase the mentality, that some organisation or person would definitely have to employ them after school.
She said the uniqueness of every individual, held some potential for job creation, adding that with that on hand, uncovering and examining the various needs in the society, could offer a person a number of outlets for job creation.
“Persevere and do not let failure or temporary deviation discourage you. Dare to dream, stand out and make a difference,” Dr. Decker said.
