Walewale (N/R), Oct. 29, GNA - Some residents of the West Mamprusi Municipality have appealed to the government to provide them with more toilet facilities to help curb open defaecation in the area.
They said the lack of toilet facilities in their communities had exposed especially pupils to health hazards such as cholera, malaria, and snake bites among others, hence the need for such facilities.
They made the appeal at a town hall meeting organized at Walewale on Thursday by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the West Mamprusi Municipality to engage citizens in the area on government’s flagship programmes and projects in the country.
It was attended by public and private sector workers, chiefs, opinion leaders amongst other stakeholders in the Municipality.
Other residents also cited lack of potable water and pockets of armed robbery in the area, appealing to government help safeguard the situation.
Mr Abu Mohammed, West Mamprusi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who made a presentation on the activities of the Assembly since 2017, said it provided farmers with inputs such as improved seeds and fertilizers worth GH¢2,188,020.00 and GH¢3,672,027.00 in 2017 and 2018 respectively to boost agricultural production.
Mr Mohammed said the Assembly had selected 10 communities to benefit from the one-village one-dam initiative, adding that the construction of a warehouse in the Municipality would also start soon.
He said the Assembly had also constructed a number of classroom blocks as well as roofed others that had been ripped off through rainstorm, to expand access to education, adding that through the USAID Systems for Health project, a number of CHPS Compounds were also constructed in the area.
Mr Ahmed Fuseini, Northern Regional Director of the Information Services Department, who spoke on behalf of the Minister for Information, assured that government was poised to delivering on its transformation agenda to make the country prosperous urging the citizenry to complement government's efforts through responsible behaviours.
Naa Salifu Mahama, Chief of Guabuliga in the Municipality urged residents to collaborate with the security agencies to ensure peace and order in the area, to ensure the successful creation of the proposed North-East Region to help speed up development activities.
