Sang (N/R), Oct. 29, GNA – A Skills Training Centre has been inaugurated at Sang in the Mion District of the Northern Region to provide residents with vocational skills to earn a living.
The Mion Skills Training Centre will impart residents with self-employable skills in vocations such as hairdressing, sewing, masonry and carpentry.
The fully-equipped facility was initiated and financed by Mr Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Mion.
Mr Abdul-Aziz, who spoke during the inauguration of the Centre at Sang over the weekend, said it formed part of his agenda to empower the youth with employable skills for sustainable livelihood.
He, therefore, urged the youth of the area to take advantage of the facility to acquire skills to earn a living.
He challenged the government to give meaning to its promise to construct factories in each district of the country by constructing one at the Mion District too for the benefit of the people.
Mr Abdulai Abudu, Chairman of Tailors and Dressmakers Association at Mion thanked the Member of Parliament for the area for providing the facility, which would go a long way to address poverty in the area.
Mr Abudu said due to lack of job opportunities and self-employable skills, some youth of the area had migrated to other parts of the country in search of jobs expressing hope that the facility would ensure that the youth remained at the district to contribute to its development.
Meanwhile, Mr Abdul-Aziz has also donated five bags each of rice and maize, two cartoons of soap and toiletries to the Narareth Home of God’s Children at Mion for the upkeep of the children there.
The Nazareth Home of God’s Children caters for children abandoned because of birth defects.
Reverend Sister Stan Therese Mumuni, Manageress of the Home, who received the items, thanked the Member of Parliament for the area for his generosity and continued support to the children in the facility.
