Accra, Oct. 1, GNA - Reverend Dr Victor Okoe Abbey, Acting Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on Christians to open a new chapter by refraining from acts which would reverse the wheels of development.
He said Christians will be doing disservice to the nation if they did not allow the teachings of Jesus Christ to reflect in their lives.
Reverend Abbey was speaking on Sunday at the 150th anniversary celebration of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Apenkwa in Accra.
The event was held under the theme: “Thus Far the Lord Has Brought Us; Building on the Foundation Already laid”.
Reverend Abbey attributed the country’s socio-economic woes to the mad rush of Christians for monetary gains instead of seeking their spiritual well-being.
He commended the founding fathers of the church for laying a good foundation which has had a positive influence on many lives in the society.
Mrs Elizabeth Sackey, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, urged them to attend to issues of sanitation with seriousness and help improve the outlook of the community.
She urged parents to instil in their wards a sense of discipline worthy of emulation.
Mrs Sackey appealed to religious leaders to use the pulpit to educate their members on government’s policies and programmes.
Reverend Samuel Adom Adjah said the church was putting up a manse to accommodate the ministers.
He commended the Basel Missionaries and the pioneers whose effort, toil and sweat brought the church to the community.
