Teberebie (W/R), Sept. 10, GNA - Business has commenced at the new Teberebie market in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.
As at 0500 hrs on Monday, the market day, many traders had displayed their wares and were seen busily attending to their wares.
Many customers had thronged the place to purchase various items.
Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, the Senior Sustainability Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem (AAI) Gold Mines, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency as part of his tour of the market.
He said when AAI Gold Mines handed over the new market to the Teberebie community, Nana Kojo Minnah II, Odikro of Teberebie, selected Mondays as the specific day for trading and has been helpful.
He said although commercial activities have just begun many traders expressed their joy that sales was booming.
"We are very happy because this is just the beginning as time goes on activities will expand and more people from Tarkwa and beyond would be here because within this area apart from Mile Ten and Half there is no market day anywhere in Tarkwa except Nsueam" he said.
Mr Baidoo expressed the hope that this would impact positively on the economic activities in Teberebie and beyond.
Poverty level among women in its catchment areas would reduce drastically as they would earn money for themselves, he said.
He said commercial transport businesses would have their fair share as taxi drivers would be loading commuters at their respective stations.
Madam Kwakwa, a female trader, expressed satisfaction with the patronage and thanked AAI Gold Mines for constructing the Teberebie market.
