Ajumako (C/R), Aug. 19, GNA - Right Reverend Victor Atta Baffoe, Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Cape Coast Internal Province of Ghana, has called on all to play their roles to ensure the socio-economic development of the country.
“I commend government for the bold initiative and political will to pursue its flagship programmes which include the free SHS education, Planting for Food and Jobs and the One District One Factory”.
Bishop Atta Baffoe said this at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Session of the 4th Diocesan Synod of the Church at Ajumako in Central Region.
The event was held under the theme: “You can’t do everything so do something: Growing towards sustainability for Mission and Ministry”.
Bishop Atta Baffoe said “while we sincerely thank the Almighty God for these initiatives, I wish to stress the fact that so much still remains to be done to turn these dreams into reality”.
He said if there should be peace and stability in the country, the media have an indispensable and vital role to play, adding that media practitioners, both the state owned and private, should aim at being fair, honest, objective and circumspective in their reportage.
They should seek to know the truth and report nothing but the truth adding the media proliferation in the country may be a good sign of Ghana’s maturity in the democratic culture, he said.
The Bishop said, ”We need to redirect our political discourse, raise concerns and issues dispassionately for the common good of the entire people” and added that as a nation “we appreciate efforts that brings us a measure of happiness, peace and joy, even if we must suffer a little”.
As the saying goes, “Rome was not built in a day” each and every one should admit his or her limitations, fully aware that what matters is that “we do not lose hope or give up as we struggle to consolidate our democracy”.
He said the disdain and disregard for culture have emptied the people of their cherished traditional values and this has resulted in people throwing away the fear of the Lord which in turn has led people into various social crimes such as killing our fellow human beings for power or wealth, the so called “Sakawa”, greed, bribery and corruption, violence and others.
He said these evils are now endemic in the every section of the society and called for political will and a determined effort of all Ghanaians to rid ourselves of the canker that is gradually eating us away.
He appealed to all stakeholders in the society to reflect on the various societal canker and accept that this is a weakness that is destroying our nation.
