Bolgatanga, Aug. 19, GNA – Former Ghana’s Ambassador to Mali, Mr Donald Adabere has called on the youth to rejuvenate the spirit of offering voluntary services towards the development of the country.
Mr Adabere said the youth are the future leaders of the country, however, some have become individualistic rather than contributing their quota towards the development of their communities and the country as a whole.
“In those days, people were volunteering to help each other on the farms and they were producing enough. But this time everyone believes that if you are not paid, you should help; that is not good”, he said.
Mr Adabere, who doubles as Chairman of Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) Board, made the call during this year’s National Youth Camp of the society held in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region.
He said there is the need for a paradigm shift among the youth of Ghana in rekindling their spirits in volunteerism towards curbing some social vices in the country.
Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko, Acting Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, on behalf of the Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, commended the Ghana Red Cross Society for its contribution towards national development.
The Minister reiterated the call for volunteerism among the youth and said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government knows the potential of the youth and would rely on them in the effort to build the society.
